About the Alpharetta High School Band & Color Guard Program

One of our goals is to "inspire a desire" for great performance and equip / prepare our students who aspire to continue playing in college.   Today we have AHS Band graduates performing in college ensembles all over the country.  Many AHS Band graduates earn partial or full scholarships based on their performance abilities, whether they major in music or not.  Meet the Directors here.

Our ensembles are consistently rated superior at festivals and competitions. Highlight performances include annual appearances at the Georgia Music Educators Large Group Performance Evaluation; local marching band exhibitions and competitions including the White Columns Invitational, the Lassiter Marching Band Showcase, the Greater Atlanta Marching Band Festival and trips to the Florida east and west coast with our Marching Raiders, performing major competitions annually "on the coast!" Our Wind Ensemble was invited to and performed at the 2006 National Concert Band Festival at Carnegie Hall in New York City and the 2008 Heritage Band Festival in San Francisco, CA. In January 2010 The Wind Ensemble was a featured ensemble at the Georgia Music Educators Association state convention in Savannah, GA. Our winds performed the next night at same GMEA convention with the AHS Symphony Orchestra.

The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band were both invited to and performed at the 2010 National Concert Band Festival at Carnegie Hall in NYC. In January 2011 the Wind Ensemble was invited as a featured performer to the University of Georgia’s 61st annual January Band Festival, and in February 2012 was one of only 2 bands selected as a Georgia Band of Distinction by Georgia State University.  In the spring of 2012 our Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band performed at the 2012 Festival Disney Concert Band Festival in Orlando, FL;  the Wind Ensemble finished with the second highest score of the entire event.   In December 2012 our Symphony winds and percussion performed at the 66th annual Midwest Clinic in Chicago. In February 2013 our Wind Ensemble performed at the University of Alabama’s annual Alabama Honor Band Festival. In November 2013 our Marching Raiders performed in the Magnificent Mile Festival of Lights Parade in downtown Chicago  In February 2015 our Wind Ensemble performed at the Southeast Regional Music for All Concert Band Festival at GSU.

In January 2016 our Symphony winds and percussion took the stage at the Georgia Music Educators Association State Convention, and in March 2016 our Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble along with our Symphony Orchestra made a return to the stage of Carnegie Hall for the National Concert Band Festival in New York City.  In January 2018 Our Wind Ensemble performed at the 68th annual University of Georgia January Band Festival (JanFest).  And in the Spring 2020 both the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Bands have been invited BACK to Carnegie Hall for a fourth performance!

Whether on stage at Carnegie Hall or our own theater, or on the 50 yard line at half time or in competition, you WILL get a great experience as a member of the Alpharetta High School Bands!!
