Change...is inevitable!

Change is inveitable, growth is optional!  Goals in concrete, plans in sand....  

Due to a schedule conflict this year, the AHS Homecoming game has been moved from September 29th to October 13th (the same night as Pink Out).  This also moves the Homecoming Dance to Saturday October 14th.   In response, we've moved our regional Marching Band competition from Saturday October 14th (to avoid the conflict with the HC Dance) to Saturday November 4th.  We'll be performing at the White Columns Marching Band Invitational hosted by Milton High School.  This should also allow us to pull in a good home-crowd!!  Please mark your calendars accordingly and plan to come out and support our Marching Raiders at their final 2017 performance!

All State Audition Etudes Available NOW

The etudes for the 2017-18 All State Band audition have been published.  Go to GMEA website to download.  If you did NOT receive an email about this be sure you go into your CHARMS account and update your email address.  Be sure you print the etude for your instrument and grade level.

The first day back to school is always hectic, stressful, and even a little bit crazy.  Remember Raider Band members, step back, take a breath, and relax.  You've always got a place to hang.  And without doubt, if you've got any issues, we have someone in our program that has been through it and can help you.  This is gonna be a great year!

The 2017 Marching Raiders will return to Florida to compete at Ft. Walton Beach, our Amazing Wind Ensemble has an invitational performance at UGA JanFest, and ALL of our SPECTACULAR CONCERT BANDS will travel to Aneheim, California for a Disney-sponsored National Concert Band Festival!!  Of course there are many details still to come, but if you're in the band, this should be a year WORTH looking forward to!

FIRST-WEEK things to consider: 

1. We will play instruments in class EVERY DAY - so always have your instrument at school.  Don't forget reeds, valve oil, cork grease, slide grease... NEED A SCHOOL INTRUMENT?  There is a one-time usage fee of $60 for the year, checks payable to ABBA; if you have already registered and paid band fees this was included.  NOTE: Percussionists, this fee does NOT pay for your sticks and mallets.  Those are consumable items, so you will purchase those on your own.  We can often provide them for you at a discounted price.  The $60 you pay (at the time of registration) is for use of all of the many percussion instruments you will have access to over the course of the year. 

School instruments will be checked out beginning Monday. 

2.  BRING $10.00 for instrument locker, cash or check, checks payable to ABBA.  Instrument lockers will be assigned this week before school, at lunch, after school.  No time to get a locker during the day after your rehearsal. 

3. Marching Band (MB) rehearsal is every Tuesday from 6:30-9pm and Thursday from 4-7pm until the end of football season.  Rehearsals are required, so plan accordingly.  Only 4 rehearsals until the first performance!  Remember to bring your water jug on practice days.  And yes, we practice RAIN OR SHINE!

4. We use CHARMS Office Assistant for info, SMARTMUSIC for performance-based assignments, and MS OneNote for written work and other assignments as needed.  Detailed info will be sent home about these programs soon. 

5. Get USED to looking at the band website calendar (see button at top of website). There are several ways to view content, PLUS the band calendar can be linked to your phone calendar.

6. Finally, make a habit of completing assignments (in all classes) when they are assigned and turn them in before or on the due date; this will make your year a lot less stressful and a lot more enjoyable!
